Vision, Purpose and Values

Our Vision

People with a disability are empowered to live a dignified and independent life of their choosing, connected to family, friends and community.

A Dignified Life requires a sense of purpose and a right to choose

Our aspiration is for people with disability to experience a meaningful, contributing life with happy, memorable moments from which they derive a sense of purpose and fulfilment.

Our aspiration is for people with disability to determine their life course, even if taking reasonable risks.

An Independent Life requires a caring support network

Our aspiration is for people with disability to connect with people who are not just paid to care for them, but people who genuinely care for them, so they are empowered to live independent lives.

A Connected Life requires genuine relationships

Our aspiration is for people with disability to build genuine relationships with family, friends and community, through which they feel accepted, valued and loved.

Our Purpose

Provide support services to people with a disability that affirm who they are, build their capacity and create opportunity to live a dignified, independent and connected life.

Affirm Care’s purpose describes how we contribute to our vision for people living with a disability. Our purpose and our name emphasise how important we believe it is to first affirm who a person is, building their sense of self-worth and self-esteem.

Our services help people build capacity (through knowledge, skills and expertise) and create the opportunity to live a dignified, independent and connected life of their choosing.

Our Values

Affirm Care is a values-based organisation and our shared values are evident in the way we behave towards our clients and one another.

We are inspired to act from Compassion and strive for Equity. We celebrate Diversity and build warm Relationships based on Dignity, Integrity, Respect and Collaboration.

  • We express and demonstrate our affection for other people as fellow human beings.
  • We seek to understand one another by looking at the world ‘through their eyes’.

Equity

  • We treat everyone fairly and inclusively.
  • We stand in solidarity with people with disability and their families.
  • We strive to offer equity of opportunity to each person.

  • We work to reduce the isolation and segregation experienced by PwD and their families.

Dignity

  • We uphold the rights and worth of each person.
  • We ask people to tell us what they need and do not assume we know what is best for them.
  • We enable PwD to exercise choice and control.

Integrity

  • We are honest and transparent about our intentions.
  • We are reliable and do what we say we are going to do.
  • We live by the same principles and standards we expect of others.

Respect

  • We treat everyone in the way we would want to be treated in their shoes.
  • We respect the views and opinions of others, even when they are different from our own.
  • We respect the right of people with disability to live a life ‘their way’.

Collaboration

  • We look for opportunities to cooperate and work with others.
  • We build on the strengths and capabilities others bring.
